Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa received the award for “Best New Sports Facility” at the 5th annual Horizon Awards for Sports Business Wednesday night in Atlanta. The Horizon Awards, created by the Atlanta Sports Council, honors the thought-leaders and innovators in the sports business industry. The “Best New Sports Facility” award recognizes the best sports-use facility that showcased significant progress in design, development, construction and use of technology.

Nominees and winners were selected for 11 categories by the Horizon Awards Voting Academy, a national body representing every sector of the sports business industry. The voting process was certified by the accounting firm of Habif, Arogeti and Wayne LLP, official business advisors to the Horizon Awards.

In addition to hosting large concerts and family events, Wells Fargo Arena is the permanent home of the Iowa Stars hockey organization of the American Hockey League. The building will also host the annual Iowa State Wrestling, Boys’ State Basketball, and Girls’ State Basketball Tournaments each Spring.

Wells Fargo Arena includes a 180-seat restaurant, 36 corporate suites, 20 loge boxes, and 600 club seats offering the finest in fan amenities. In total, the arena will have a capacity of 16,980 for center-stage concerts, 16,285 for end-stage concerts, 16,110 for basketball, and 15,181 for hockey.
