Kutztown German Festival - Kutztown, PA
Venue: Kutztown Fairgrounds
This is a 9-day event that celebrates Pennsylvania Dutch folklore and fun. One of the most popular aspects of the festival is the world’s largest quilt sale. With over 2,500 quilts for sale, and an auction of the top 24 prize-quilts, it’s guaranteed to be an exiting stop for any visitor.

Children are not overlooked by this event: The festival boosts an impressing list of events for the kids. These include a baby-animal petting farm, puppets and puppet-shows, an area where kids can make and keep their own crafts, haystacks and mazes, singalongs, and all sorts of hands-on fun.

The Pennsylvania Dutch were some of the first settlers in the US and they have kept their history and heritage intact. At the festival you will see how things were done in the old days. Folk life, farming, gardening, weddings, church life, the unique dialect, spinning, weaving, cooking, blacksmithing, furniture making, candle making and more.

Many people come the festival for the food. Amongst the favorite foods are ox roast, sausage sandwiches, pies and all sorts of pastries.

The entertainment does not stop at the always-impressive list of musicians. There are also comedy shows, live auctions, parades, storytelling, cakewalks and historical seminars.

Two hundred of the nation’s best craft makers gather to display their talents. The visitors marvel-at and purchase handmade furniture, miniatures, pottery, clothing, musical instruments, hand-painted art, iron ornaments, weaving, brooms, baskets, florals, hex painting, jewelry, leather, cut-paper art, candles and many other varieties of American folk art and crafts.

September 1
Pocono Garlic Festival - Stroudsburg, PA
Venue: Courthouse Square
Thousands and thousands of garlic lovers will be making a pilgrimage that day to partake in the joyous event in beautiful downtown Stroudsburg, which has proclaimed itself the Garlic Capital of the World. And the Poconos' two vineyards will be there with wine to sample and to take home.

Headlining the entertainment, as always, will be the Garlic Eating Tuba Troubadours. Garlic-loving tuba players, dozens of them, play their instruments with savage abandon, but only after consuming liberal quantities of Pocono garlic. Their efforts will perfume the air of beautiful downtown Stroudsburg. And once people see the Troubadours, they'll know why they have been called "he world's smelliest band"by Disney Adventures Magazine. But there's more, much more. There's so much free entertainment waiting for you that we'll have four stages in operation all day long. Admission is free, but bring money.
