11th Annual Middle Eastern Festival of Indianapolis - Indianapolis, IN
“Middle Eastern food is fresh, healthy, and tasty. We use a lot of parsley, cumin, allspice and lots of garlic,” says Mina Khoury, who manages food preparation for the 11th Annual Middle Eastern Festival of Indianapolis. “Some dishes go back thousands of years,” says Mr. Khoury, a native of Bethlehem, who came to this country in 1968.
You can listen to Middle Eastern music by Amin and the Sultans, watch or learn authentic folk dancing, and try native foods. The festival will be held on Friday from 4:00-11:00 pm; Saturday from noon to 11:00 pm, and Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 4020 N. Sherman Drive, Indianapolis.
Dining options will feature authentic Middle Eastern tastes: lamb shanks, kibbee, falafel, kafta, gyros, shish tawook, grape leaves, and a myriad of pastries and beverage options. Air-conditioned indoor shopping will feature Middle Eastern jewelry, groceries, icons, books, CDs, cookbooks and gift items. Adult admission is $3 and children under 12 are free. Adult admission is free with the advance purchase of 10 food/drink tickets for $10.
