Ketchum Wagon Days - Sun Valley, ID
On August 31, The Independent Wagon Train. Approximately 4 p.m. Wagons and teams arrive from 70 mile, 6 day journey across Idaho sheep country, mining districts, and the historic Dollarhide Summit. Watch this wagon train arrive in Ketchum to particpate in the 2006 Wagon Days Parade. On Labor Day Weekend the Cities of Ketchum and Sun Valley host the historic Wagon Days Celebration. The holiday weekend is packed with a variety of activities, many of which celebrate the valley’s mining history.
The Big Hitch Parade is the highlight of the celebration. It has grown into the largest non-motorized parade in the West, displaying more than a hundred museum-quality buggies, carriages, tacks, carts, buckboards, and wagons of every variety in existence today. The Wagon Days Big Hitch, historic wagons used to haul ore from the area, are powered by an authentic 16-draft mule jerkline.
Adding spice to the parade is a lively assortment of authentically costumed individuals, numerous breeds of horses, from Arabs to Morgans to Pasos. Plus, professional and scholastic marching bands from around the state and the intermountain west.

Trailing of the Sheep Festival - Ketchum, ID
Trailing of the Sheep Festival is the recipient of the Idaho Governor's Award for Outstanding Cultural Heritage Tourism. Events include a variety of cultural activities and programs relating to the history of sheep ranching in Idaho and the Wood River Valley, and the Basque and Scottish heritage of the region including a sheep poetry reading and music, sheep folk life fair, story telling, and guided walk to view sheepherder tree carvings. Additional activities include workshops on spinning, weaving, and cooking w/ lamb. The 3-day event concludes with a parade and a chance to trail with local herders and their sheep through downtown Ketchum.
